The Flying Samaritans is a non-profit, non-sectarian volunteer organization devoted to the provision of health care and health education of the economically disadvantaged in Baja California, Mexico. Our clinics seek to serve the 60% of Mexican citizens who are unable to access basic healthcare. Specifically, the Flying Samaritans branch at UC San Diego is a student-run section of the Palomar Chapter, operating a monthly clinic in Chapultepec Ensenada BCN, Mexico. Through the work of our passionate volunteers and health care professionals, we are able to provide medical care, dental care, and public health education for our patients to complement the resources already available within this community. In addition to our main clinic, we provide similar services at a local orphanage called Ranchos de los Niños. We visit our clinic once a month and on an average day, our doctors see 30 patients – mainly women and children. So far we have been successful in our mission, providing patients with thousands of prescriptions filled by our own pharmacy and giving countless donations to these populations in need. But we cannot do this alone.
The UCSD chapter was founded in 2000, and every year we must strive to meet the needs of our community in Mexico. Yearly, medication and operating funds cost about $1500 between the medical, dental, optometry, and women’s clinic services we provide in Ensenada. In addition, one of our goals this year includes implementing a community garden which will allow community members of Ensenada to grow their own produce as well as participate in workshops pertaining to gardening and living a healthy lifestyle.
Even though we fundraise throughout the school year, we still need help in order to continue our mission. It is our sincerest request that you support us by donating to our organization. Any amount that you can offer us would make a direct, truly meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve. If you wish to aid us, donation options are provided on the following page. Flying Samaritans is an organization recognized as exempt under Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and all donations are tax-deductible.</>
Another option is to donate physical goods, such as clothes or medical/dental supplies. UCSD Flying Samaritans is always in need of these items! You can reach us at email@example.com in order for us to coordinate pickup or answer any of your questions.
