Elizabeth Evangelista, from the Princeton Review, will be going over how to tackle the GRE for anyone interested in Masters or PhD programs!

We will also be passing out your Krispy Kreme donuts  at GBM #3! You can pick it up starting at 6:30pm (Monday of Week 8). If you cannot make it at 6:30pm, we will also be on campus from 3-4pm on the 22nd if you want your donuts ASAP :) Just message Taylor @ 760-669-4998.

CLINIC REPORT: APRIL 22, 2017 @ ENSEÑADA

Everyone met at Stein parking lot at 5:30am. I had an early car leave at 5:30 to set up the clinic. We gave a brief meeting and introduced everyone to each other.  Every provider and every volunteer showed up. We left Stein around 6am and headed towards the clinic. We arrived at the clinic and started the clinic flow. Around a total of 23 patients signed up and we saw all of them. Clinic ran very smoothly and EMR was also running efficiently. In Mexico, it was the day of the kids and we provided some candy, a piñata, and cake. We finished at 2pm and got something to eat and then headed home. We arrived back at Stein parking lot around 7:30pm. Overall, it was a successful and smooth clinic.

Clinic Notes

Today clinic was very successful. We were ale to see 9 patients thanks to Dr. Ivan Celis and Dr. Anu Raja. We arrived to clinic at approximately 9:30am with only 6 patients on our waitlist initially, and 16 on our waitlist by the end of the day. We accommodated all patients that were willing to stay and have their necessary treatments executed. We were able to reorganize our supply closet in order to make it more efficient to locate necessary items. With the help of one of our volunteers, we were able to use our x-ray machine and successfully develop the films so that our doctors could better evaluate our patients. Both dental chairs need the suction vacuum to be repaired, but the portable suction unit helped us execute the necessary procedures. Dr. Ivan Celis and Dr. Anu Raja provided patient care throughout the day, which resulted in 9 successful evaluations/procedures and 3 appointments for the next clinic trip. It was a pleasure working with both doctors, and we hope to have more productive clinic trips like this one!

Clinic Notes

Today clinic ran very smoothly. Thanks to Dr. Leila Jindeel and Dr. Anu Raja, we were able to see a total of 10 patients. We originally had 15 people on the waitlist and we accommodated all patients that were willing to stay and have their necessary treatments executed; 10 patients were treated, 5 patients were no-shows. We arrived to clinic a little later than usual, but we were able to see all patients who were present and leave at the regular time. Dr. Leila Jindeel and Dr. Anu Raja provided quality patient care throughout the day, our 3 chairside volunteers worked efficiently, and our Spanish translator helped the our dentists communicate with the patients. Both chairs need to have the suction vacuum repaired; a portable suction unit was used.

Today was our first day working in the new clinic building. We were able to see 9 patients thanks to Dr. Ivan Celis and Dr. Leila Jindeel. We arrived to clinic an hour later than anticipated, which resulted in a late start to the clinic that day. We originally had 14 people on our waitlist, and we accommodated all patients that were willing to stay and have their necessary treatments executed; we treated 9 patients, 2 patients were no-shows, and 2 patients were unable to be seen due to time restrictions. The new clinic building was functional, and we were able to run it efficiently after locating necessary materials and completing the clinic set up. Both dental chairs need the suction vacuum to be repaired. Dr. Ivan Celis and Dr. Leila Jindeel provided patient care throughout the day, which resulted in 9 successful evaluations/procedures. It was a pleasure working with both doctors and we look forward to working with them on many more trips.

Clinic went very well today, unfortunately we couldn’t see high volumes of patients due to only having one dentist and no running water, but we still had important cleanings and exams done in order to prevent further complications. We were able to transport all materials to the new clinic and create an updated inventory list of what is being kept there.

We originally had 12 people on the waitlist and by the end of the day we had 4 patients leave due to wait time.

We accommodated all patients that were willing to stay and have their necessary treatments executed. However, 4 patients signed up and did not show up to receive the necessary treatment or were no longer waiting once we checked in on triage.

Dr. Ahmed and Dr. Iman continuously swapped out providing patient care throughout the day, which, resulted in 6 successful evaluations/procedures. It was a pleasure having both doctors with us on the clinic trip and we look forward to many more trips to come. One patient came in to check if they could get a night guard and another patient was set to have a root canal at a later date.

Spring GBM #1: Standing Out in the Medical School Application Process

3/25 Clinic

Clinic Report: March 25, 2017 @ Enseñada

A majority of the volunteers and all 4 providers met at the Stein Clinical Parking lot at 5:30am. An earlier group that consisted of a co-president, Jennifer Corona, and 4 volunteers met at 5:15am and departed at 5:30am in order to set up clinic before the rest of the group arrived. The larger group, consisting of 3 cars, left UCSD at 6:00am and arrived at clinic around 8:30am. When we arrived there were only a few patients present who were signed up for medical treatment, while the rest of the patients trickled in throughout the day. We possibly will need to clarify to Maria Elena that we will be starting clinic earlier so that more patients are signed up by the time we get there. Sending an earlier car was useful and allowed clinic to begin faster. A total of 15 medical patients were seen. 7 of the patients were children. Dr. Pfeiffer only treated the children while Dr. Horton and Dr. McCauley only treated the adults. Dental saw 10 patients. We left clinic around 2:00pm, ate lunch at Tacos El Poblano, and headed to the border. Our co-president, Cassidy Koo, drove a car with only the providers on the way back because she had a passport card and could help providers get home faster. We got to the border around 5:00pm, crossed, and got back to UCSD around 8:30pm.
