Our annual spring banquet will take place on Saturday June 2 from 11:30am-1:30pm at Mission Bay in San Diego! The banquet will feature a presentation to look back on and celebrate this year’s accomplishments, a charity raffle with great prizes, a catered lunch from Malter Diner (vegetarian options available), and various lawn games.
Some of the raffle prizes include a kayak tour for four people, four tickets to the USS Midway, a Philz Coffee gift basket, and a Sugarfina candy basket.
If you plan on attending, please RSVP to email@example.com, indicate whether you would prefer a vegetarian or non-vegetarian meal, and Venmo $12 to @FlyingSams by 11:59pm Monday, May 28th. You will receive the address of the venue as a reply to your email RSVP. We will send out a ride document on Tuesday, May 29th to sign up for rides.
One of our volunteer physicians is recruiting for a one-week medical trip to Jamaica. Dr. Andrade, a family medicine physician and member of faculty for the Kaiser Permanente Family Medicine residency program is coordinating this trip and seeking between 2 and 4 UCSD students to accompany the training physicians. Total cost (flights, meals, lodging, ground transportation) is about $2400, and program dates are September 22-29th.

Thank you all who came out and supported Flying Sams through the Rubio’s Fundraiser! We made around $300 which is awesome for a fundraiser of this level! I am proud of and grateful for your passion for our cause! Just wanted to express my gratitude to you all! Great Job! 🙂

Come out and study with fellow Flying Sams! There will be tutors available for various standard subjects (math, sciences, etc.). The specific room will be posted on the Flying Sams Facebook page shortly before the event – this is a clinic point event that will be repeated weekly!
When: Wednesday, May 9th from 7:00-9:00 pm
Where: Red Shoe Room (PC West near Shogun)
Flying Sams will have its second GBM of the quarter on Wednesday of Week 6! We will have the opportunity to hear from Dr. Jean Baptiste and Dr. Matialeu about women in medicine. This is going to be a great event, so don’t miss out!

The morning of Saturday April 21, we had our monthly clinic trip to serve the community of Chapultepec in Ensenada, Mexico. We had a total of 14 volunteers and had 3 providers, 1 pharmacists, and 12 dentists also volunteer with us. We had a total of 5 cars that left the Stein parking lot at 6:45 am and 1 early car that left at 5:30 to organize and set up the clinic before everyone arrived. We arrived at the clinic at around 9:00 am. With the 3 providers, we were able to see 20 patients in total before leaving at 2:25 pm. We all ate at the usual taco shop until 3:30 pm and the left for the border. At the border, the wait took about 15 minutes for Sentri, 30 mins for Ready, and an hour for All-traffic lane, and we all arrived at campus around 6:30, 7:15, and 8:30 pm.

The morning of Saturday 4/7, we had our Orphanage Clinic Trip to serve the children in Rancho de los Ninos in Mexico. We had a total of 9 volunteers and had 1 provider as well. We had a total of 2 cars that left the Stein parking lot around 6:30 am and 1 early car that left at 6 am to pick up materials from regular clinic to bring to the Orphanage. We arrived at the clinic at around 9 am. With the 1 provider, we were able to see 10 patients in total before leaving at 1:30 pm. We ate at a Panaderia nearby and then left for the border (one car went back to the regular clinic to drop off some supplies). At the border, the wait took about 2 hours and we all arrived at campus around 6:30 pm (early car) and 8:30 pm (late car).
